Although this Halloween may look a little different, there is still plenty of fun to be had for families in the New York City area. Many activities can still safely be done if the proper precautions are taken. Check out these fun Halloween activities with your family this year.
1. Pumpkin Patches
You can’t have Halloween without pumpkins, and it’s the perfect activity to do with the family because it’s outdoors and you can safely social distance. Some of the best pumpkin patches in the NYC area are:
- Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard
- Outhouse Orchards
- Stuart’s Fruit Farm
- Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm
- Elwood Pumpkin Farm
2. Boo at the Zoo
The whole family can dress up in their favorite costume and participate in some Halloween fun at the Bronx Zoo’s “Boo at the Zoo“. There’s a magician, animal graveyard, pumpkin carving demos, a scavenger hunt, and more for kids and adults of all ages to participate in.
3. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze
Over 7,000 illuminated jack o’lanterns light up the sky at the annual “The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze”. Families can also tour the Museum of Pumpkin Art, take in a show at the Pumpkin Planetarium, and see the miraculous 25-foot-tall jack o’lantern in the shape of the Statue of Liberty.
4. The Amazing Maize Maze
The only corn maze in NYC, Queens County Farm Museums “The Amazing Maize Maze” is 3-acres of corn stalk fun for the whole family. Follow the clues on the way to Victory Bridge where you’ll then delight in the beauty of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” masterpiece. There are also hayrides, a beer garden, farmers market, and more to enjoy.
5. Trick-Or-Treating
Even COVID-19 can’t keep the kids from the best Halloween activity of all- trick-or-treating. The CDC has issued guidelines for families to safely trick-or-treat, and they involve wearing cloth face masks, practicing social distancing, preparing treat bags for trick-or-treaters with clean hands, and organizing a Halloween scavenger hunt in your home for your kids.
With the proper precautions, Halloween fun can still be enjoyed safely in NYC this year.
